The Ministry of Defence today signed Letters of Offer and Acceptance (LOAs) with the United States government to provide comprehensive sustainment support for the Indian Navy’s fleet of MH-60R multi-role helicopters. Valued at approximately ₹7,995 crore, the five-year agreement underscores deepening defence ties between the two despite President Trump’s tariff assault.
The deal, inked under the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme, was formalised in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in Delhi. It encompasses “Follow on Support” and “Follow on Supply Support,” ensuring the long-term operational readiness of these advanced, all-weather Sikorsky MH-60 Seahawk helicopters, which play significant roles in anti-submarine warfare and other naval missions.
The support deal is a comprehensive package which includes provisioning of spares, support equipment, product support, training and technical support, repair & replenishment of components and setting up of ‘Intermediate’ level component repairs & Periodic Maintenance Inspection facilities in India, a statement issued by the Defence Ministry said.
Development of these facilities in India will ensure capability build-up in the long run and reduced dependence on the US Government, thus aligning with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the statement added. This would further lead to indigenous product and services development through MSMEs and other Indian firms.
The MH-60R Seahawk helicopters, acquired from the US in recent years, represent a cornerstone of the Indian Navy’s modernization efforts. Capable of operating from both shore bases and warships, they enhance India’s ability to conduct surveillance, reconnaissance, and combat operations in diverse maritime environments.
