Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), India’s largest renewable energy developer, has given a significant boost to its sustainability agenda by formally integrating the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework into its enterprise-wide strategy.
AGEL said the move marks a shift from conventional ESG compliance toward a nature-positive model of renewable expansion, where biodiversity protection is ensured in parallel with green energy growth.
AGEL began conducting assessments across all operational sites in FY24, mapping ecological dependencies, risks and opportunities even before joining the global TNFD Adopters group. CEO Ashish Khanna said the approach ensures that renewable infrastructure development actively contributes to strengthening natural ecosystems and biodiversity.
AGEL’s taskforce is backed by several global bodies, United Nations Environment Program Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), World Wildlife Fund and Global Canopy etc. It provides a global framework for evaluating nature-related risks. Aligning with it places AGEL among the leading renewable companies of the world incorporating biodiversity into strategic decision-making. AGEL has also reaffirmed its commitment to achieving No Net Loss of Biodiversity by 2030, supported by a plan to plant 27.86 million trees across project sites
The AGEL’s broader sustainability credentials include water-positive operations, zero waste-to-landfill status, and elimination of single-use plastic across its portfolio
