Thawe Durga Temple theft case: Bihar Police nab second accused, Ijmamul Alam, after late-night shootout

Police in Bihar have arrested the second accused in the high-value theft case of the famous Thawe Durga Temple of Gopalganj district. Police caught the second accused, Ijmaul Alam, on Saturday morning (27th December) after a dramatic shootout. The theft on 17th December had shocked everyone, crores worth of jewellery vanished from the Siddhpeeth Durga temple, and now cops are closing in on the gang.

Acting on a tip-off, police surrounded Ijmamul Alam and his associates hiding in the Jagmalwa village area of Gopalganj. When the criminals realised they were trapped, they opened fire on the officers. In the exchange of shots, Ijmamul took a bullet in his leg and got nabbed. His other companions ran away in the darkness, but the police are hot on their trail with raids ongoing.

Police identified Ijmamul Alam as a resident of Rajepur village under Govindganj police station limits in East Champaran district of Bihar. During the arrest, cops recovered pieces of a gold crown stolen from the temple, seen as solid evidence. The injured suspect was first treated at the local Sadar Hospital and then rushed to Patna for better care.

Police say the prime accused, Deepak Rai, was already arrested earlier. With this encounter, they’re ramping up efforts to grab the rest of the gang. The temple theft had locals furious, and these arrests bring some relief as investigations continue.
