On 15th February, Gonda Police arrested four people, including a Muslim boy, for stalking and sending obscene messages on Instagram to a Hindu girl. Along with the Muslim boy, several others, including KGN Public School’s manager Waris Khan, have been booked by the police for assaulting the brother of the minor girl who went to the school to object. The father, who is the complainant, alleged that the school is unrecognised and that clerics come to the school to brainwash students.
The incident took place at KGN Public School in Seheriya Churaha under Kaundhiya Bazar Police Station limits in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh. A minor Class IX student accused a Muslim boy of stalking and sending her obscene messages on Instagram. When her brother went to the school to object, he was assaulted by the accused and several others.
Based on the girl’s father’s complaint, police have registered an FIR under Sections 191(2), 78(2), 79, 352, 351(2) and 131 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with Sections 11 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences, POCSO Act.
Minor alleges repeated harassment
According to the complaint filed by the girl’s father, the accused, Parvez Khan, harassed the minor while she was travelling to and from school and later began sending her obscene messages on Instagram. According to media reports, chats between Parvez and the victim showed that the girl asked him not to disturb her and warned him that she would inform her father.
The father further added that despite repeated objections, the accused continued messaging her. On Saturday, when another message reportedly arrived while the girl’s brother had the phone, he decided to visit the school and confront the management.
Brother assaulted inside school premises
The complainant stated that Parvez, along with Waris Khan, Salauddin Hafiz, Israil, Zakire, Sajid, Arshad, Imran and 10 to 15 unidentified individuals, attacked the girl’s brother with sticks and abused him when he raised the issue. It is further alleged that threats were issued during the altercation.
Media reports suggest that when the victim girl’s brother accused them of spreading “love jihad”, Salauddin Hafiz allegedly responded, “We will spread love jihad, do whatever you want.”
Allegations against school management
The girl’s father has also made serious allegations regarding the functioning of the school. He alleged that the institution is being run without proper recognition and that this fact was concealed at the time of admission. He further alleged that clerics were being invited to conduct sessions aimed at influencing students.
These allegations are part of the complaint and are currently under police investigation.
Police action and arrests
In a video statement, police said that on the 15th, the girl’s father filed a complaint stating that a boy from Class XII was harassing his daughter, who is a student of Class IX in the same school. When the girl’s brother went to the school to confront the administration, the school principal and others assaulted him. Based on his complaint, an FIR has been registered and four accused have been arrested.
