In a major development, the Election Commission of India (ECI) suspended 3 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel after a viral video showed them playing carrom inside a TMC party office in West Bengal’s Siliguri.
The development was confirmed by the ECI on Sunday (29th March). At the same time, the nodal election body ordered a departmental inquiry into the matter.
It must be mentioned that the said video went viral on social media on Saturday (28th March). 2 CAPF personnel were seen playing carrom with TMC party workers at their office. A third CAPF personnel was seen seated on a chair, enjoying the match.

In a statement, BJP candidate for Siliguri, Jagannath Chatterjee, said, “It is unclear how and where the central forces are being deployed. If the local administration or police had a role in this carrom game, strict action should be taken against them as well.”
In the meantime, TMC leader Malay Mukherjee has attempted to rationalise the conduct of the CAPF personnel. He remarked, “Those who were working here understand that casually interacting with TMC is not a crime. That is probably why they were talking and playing carrom.”
Earlier, the Election Commission removed 7 Central Armed Police Forces personnel from the election duty in West Bengal after they attended an Iftar Party in the Samserganj area of Murshidabad district.
