Rajasthan: SDM Kajal Meena, who claimed her goal was to bring positive change in people’s lives, caught taking ₹60,000 bribe

On 16th April (Thursday), a Sub Divisional Magistrate and two other individuals were taken into custody by Rajasthan’s Anti-Corruption Bureau for collecting a bribe and confiscated a “suspicious” sum of ₹4 lakh in cash. According to ACB officers, Sub-Divisional Officer Kajal Meena, who was assigned to the Nadoti sub-division in the Karauli district, was apprehended while collecting ₹60,000 through her Senior Assistant Praveen Dhakad and reader Dinesh Kumar Saini.

According to officials, the alleged bribe was being accepted from the complainant in lieu of issuing the final decree of his land. ACB Director General Govind Gupta said that the ACB’s Sawai Madhopur unit received a complaint that Meena was harassing the complainant through her reader for a bribe of ₹50,000 in exchange for releasing the final land order.

The complainant reported that after first being asked for a bribe of ₹1 lakh, they ultimately agreed on ₹50,000. According to ACB officials, the allegation was covertly confirmed when the reader asked ₹10,000 for himself and ₹50,000 for Meena. The bag containing the bribe amount and cash totalling ₹4 lakh was also seized. This was reportedly marked as another potential bribe that the SDM’s office had collected. ACB informed, “The investigation regarding the said suspicious amount is also ongoing.

Notably, during a mock interview, when she was asked her purpose for joining the administrative field, she had responded that it was the state’s top service, highly regarded and offers good pay along with benefits, and then added “an administrative officer can use their legitimate authority to bring positive changes in the life of the common people.”

The 2024 batch Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officer was topper from the ST category. Before becoming an RAS officer, she had studied B.Tech in Electrical Engineering at IIT Mandi.
