Days after a Madrasa student from Bihar had ‘disappeared’ after alleging assault on a train, he has been found, and he has admitted that he created the false story of the assault. Mohammad Faizan Raza, a 20-year-old Hafiz-e-Quran student at Darul Uloom Amjadia (Ghosi) Madrasa in Mau, Uttar Pradesh, has confessed that he fabricated the distress story about being assaulted and voluntarily went missing to avoid continuing his studies due to academic pressure. He has since issued a public apology in a video statement.
On May 25, 2026, Faizan boarded a train from Mau Junction to return to his home in Churaman Chak Bhatwaliya village of Gopalganj district in Bihar, for Eid-ul-Adha (Bakrid) holidays. Shortly after departure, around 7:06 a.m., he sent a WhatsApp message to his father, Imtiyaz Ahmad, claiming that there was a fight in the train. His message stated, ‘Abbu, a fight has broken out here on the train, everyone is beating, I’m messaging while hiding.’
His phone soon became unreachable and switched off. His father replied to him, asking him to call back. Imtiyaz Ahmad also advised him to get off the train at any station and call back, but there was no response.

The message and disappearance quickly went viral on social media platforms. Netizens speculated that the incident was a possible assault, accident, or targeted attack, with some unverified claims suggesting communal motives, such as passengers forcing him to chant “Jai Shri Ram” or violence over a seat dispute. Outrage grew over passenger safety, particularly for Muslim students travelling during holidays, and calls for justice circulated widely.
Police Investigation and Revelation
After receiving the message, the family lodged a missing person complaint at Fulwaria police station in Bihar. Police began an investigation, and CCTV footage confirmed Faizan had indeed boarded the train. However, the Bihar Police investigation, including CCTV analysis and tracking, found no evidence of any fight, assault, kidnapping, drugging, or external involvement in the train.
Subsequently, Faizan was traced and found safe around May 28, 2026, three days after he went missing. He revealed that he had voluntarily disembarked from the train and travelled independently, reaching the Katihar area.

Under questioning, Faizan initially gave inconsistent accounts but eventually confessed the truth. He admitted there was no altercation or threat on the train. He further clarified that he was not beaten, drugged, or forcibly taken anywhere. Police recorded his formal statement confirming the voluntary nature of his disappearance and the fabricated story.
Reason for the Deception and Apology
Faizan explained that he was under severe academic stress at the madrasa. Despite significant effort, he struggled to memorise the Quran Sharif and felt unable to meet expectations. He did not want to continue his studies there, but hesitated to tell his family directly. He believed that creating panic through a fake distress message and disappearing for a few days would alarm his family enough to stop sending him back to the madrasa in Mau.
In a video statement shared by his father, Imtiyaz Ahmad, Faizan publicly admitted his mistake and apologised. He said, “I didn’t realise that it would flare up this much; my only motive was to escape academic pressure. I didn’t mean or wish to trouble anyone.” He further added, “I have committed a mistake, and this will never happen again. I also apologise to everyone who got disturbed because of me.”
He confirmed he got off the train of his own accord and faced no violence or coercion. His father stated that Faizan had been trying hard but was distressed over his studies and hoped running away would change the family’s decision about his education. The family is now reconsidering whether to send him back to the madrasa.
Faizan is now back home with his family. No criminal charges have been reported in connection with the false claim so far.
