The announcement came after a high-level meeting on slum rehabilitation and resettlement. Speaking after the meeting, Shah said that the Centre and the Delhi government would work together to speed up the rehabilitation process and provide better housing facilities to eligible families.

As part of the plan, Shah directed officials to issue tenders within the next 45 days for five slum rehabilitation clusters under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. He also asked authorities to prepare detailed project reports for 50 additional slum clusters and begin the tendering process at the earliest.
The Home Minister further instructed the Delhi government to ensure that tenders for at least five PPP-based rehabilitation projects are released every month. According to him, this will help accelerate the redevelopment process and ensure that eligible residents receive housing without unnecessary delays.
Shah said the new rehabilitation colonies would not be developed as mere housing projects. Instead, they would include essential community facilities such as anganwadi centres, schools, health centres, playgrounds and other public amenities to improve the quality of life for residents.
He also clarified that eligibility for rehabilitation under the new policy will be determined based on the status of slums as of 1st January, 2025.
Highlighting the Centre’s commitment to welfare schemes, Shah said the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains focused on the principles of Antyodaya and inclusive development.
“Adequate provision should be made for community facilities such as anganwadi centres, educational institutions, health centres and playgrounds,” an official release stated.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India is committed to the upliftment of Antyodaya and Garib Kalyan,” Shah said, adding that the new policy would help provide dignified housing, better infrastructure and a more secure future for thousands of families living in Delhi’s slums.
