The self-described chief of the youth branch of the Anti-Drugs Movement in Nation (ADMIN) has been held during a districtwide sweep under Operation Toofan in Kerala. The accused has been identified as a 25-year-old man, Sharfin Sebastian. The authorities found 1.590 grams of MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine) and drug-related paraphernalia from his house on 28th June (Sunday).
Sebastian, who posed as an anti-drug campaigner and state-level office-bearer, lives in the Perumbetti police station area of Pathanamthitta district. A joint squad from the district Dansaf division and the Ranni sub-division Dansaf unit apprehended him.
The district police head was tipped off that MDMA was present inside Sebastian’s house. The latter was monitored by the Dansaf team for a few days before they reached his house at noon. According to authorities, he first attempted to deceive the cops by refusing to let them into his room. However, the drug was soon discovered within a hidden compartment among books during a comprehensive inspection of the place.
They also located an identity card claiming Sebastian to be the state president of ADMIN alongside a glass bubbler, L-shaped pipes to heat and ingest MDMA, plastic smoking pipes and other similar items. An official informed, “The youth who claimed to be the state leader of an anti-drug organisation and projected himself as leading anti-drug activities in the locality is now under arrest.”
Sebastian was brought before a judge and remanded to judicial custody. He is already accused in drug cases registered at the Palarivattom police station in Ernakulam and Ernakulam Town police station. He is also booked in two criminal cases, including one in relation to an attack on women at the Koipuram police station.
