A case has been launched against 4 individuals for mistreating a booth-level officer (BLO) who was performing tasks associated with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls on 15th July (Wednesday). They also meddled when she was in the process of carrying out her duties. The accused have been identified as 44-year-old Mohammad Sabreen, 58-year-old Ateeq ur Rehman, 50-year-old Mohammad Asif and 44-year-old Mohammad Aftab. All have been taken into custody by Delhi Police.
The accused are from Turkman Gate area. The victim is a postgraduate special education teacher who was engaged in the SIR exercise as a BLO at Fatak Telian on 5th July. The incident happened in the Chandni Mahal region. A case has been filed at the local police station at the victim’s complaint.
According to her, she continued to object but one of the perpetrators put the BLO register on her lap and signed it. They also abused her and did not accept the SIR forms. The accused also acted in an objectionable manner to humiliate her and prevented her from executing her responsibilities.
The authorities mentioned that the complaint was reported on 15th July. The woman approached the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) in Old Delhi. The action was taken after he notified the police. The complainant said she held talks on the proper line of action with her superior officials, which caused the delay in reporting the occurrence. A prima facie case was made after the complaint was verified and the relevant material was examined.
The offenders have been booked under sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty), 74 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, 3(5) (common intention), 221 (voluntarily obstructing any public servant) and 79 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult a woman’s modesty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police are conducting additional inquiry in the case.
