Three people have been detained by the Ayodhya Police after a video showed four men eating mutton and drinking beer on a boat in the middle of the Saryu River near Guptar Ghat. The incident came to light on Sunday, 19th July, after the video went viral on social media and triggered strong reactions.
According to the police, the video appears to have been recorded a few days ago, although the exact date is still being verified. In the video, four young men can be seen sitting on a boat in the middle of the river. One of them records the gathering, introduces the others and praises the meal, while another person is heard saying that the mutton is “excellent.” Two of the men are also seen drinking beer.

Three accused detained, one still on the run
Ayodhya City Circle Officer (CO) Shriyash Tripathi said that four people were seen in the video, but only three have been detained so far. “We have apprehended three youths, while one is absconding. The matter is being investigated, and appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings,” he said.
The detained men have been identified as Lavkush Nishad, Jitendra Nishad and Rajkumar Nishad. All three are residents of the Guptar Ghat area and earn their livelihood by operating boats on the Saryu River. Police said efforts are underway to trace the fourth accused.
According to the police, the act violated the sanctity of the Saryu River and offended devotees’ religious sentiments. Guptar Ghat is one of Ayodhya‘s major religious sites, where thousands of pilgrims visit every day to take a holy dip and offer prayers.
The viral video has sparked widespread criticism on social media, with many users demanding strict action against those involved for disrespecting the religious significance of the river.
Police said the Ayodhya case is still under investigation, and further legal action will be taken after examining all aspects of the viral video.
