On 3rd February, Bajaria police booked a man named Zubair, who posed as Suraj to trap a Hindu student into a romantic relationship. The student, who hails from Chhattisgarh, accused Zubair of concealing his identity and later pressuring her to convert to Islam. When she resisted, the accused and his family reportedly threatened her with dire consequences.
The victim currently resides in Kakadeo, Kanpur for her studies and is preparing for competitive exams. She met the accused online two years ago. The accused introduced himself as Suraj, trapped her in a romantic relationship, and subsequently raped her under the pretext of marriage.
When the student insisted on marriage, he turned abusive and physically assaulted her. Zubair allegedly pressured her to convert to his religion. Upon her refusal, he threatened to kill her. Later, she discovered his real name was Zubair Ahmed from the Bajaria police station area. When she complained to his elder brother, he allegedly molested her, and when she protested, he also physically assaulted her.
The student subsequently approached the Bajaria police station to lodge a complaint. DCP Central Dinesh Tripathi said police are actively looking for the accused, who will be arrested soon.
