Cracks in AIADMK? Two factions arrive separately at Tamil Nadu state assembly to take oath

It appears that cracks have emerged in the AIADMK after a drubbing in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu state assembly elections. Within the party, a faction led by SP Velumani, CV Shanmugam and C Vijayabaskar has emerged against party supremo Edappadi K Palaniswami.

Reports say that the Velumani-Shanmugam-Vijayabaskar faction is demanding a change in party leadership. The EPS-led faction and the Velumani-Shanmugam-Vijayabaskar faction arrived separately at the state assembly to take the oath. The reported anti-EPS faction is bigger compared to the one Palaniswami leads.

The development came at a time when speculations rose that 36 out of 47 AIADMK MLAs are interested in extending support to the Chief Minister Joseph Vijay and the ruling TVK government in the floor test set to take place on 13th May.

If the AIADMK MLAs officially extend support to the TVK government against the EPS faction’s stance, SP Velumani might become a power centre directly challenging EPS. He might even lay claim to the post of AIADMK general secretary.
