Delhi issues over 8 lakh Pink Saheli Smart Cards for free bus travel to women, transgender commuters

More than eight lakh women in Delhi have now received the government’s ‘Pink Saheli NCMC Smart Card’, a new digital card introduced to make free bus travel easier and more convenient.

The scheme was launched on 2nd March, 2026, under the Centre’s ‘One Nation, One Card’ initiative by President Droupadi Murmu. The smart card allows women and transgender passengers to travel free in DTC buses through a simple tap-and-go system, removing the need for paper tickets during travel.

According to government data, around 8,40,618 Pink Saheli Smart Cards had been issued till 18th May through 73 centres set up across Delhi. These include 36 DTC pass sections, 17 district magistrate and sub-divisional magistrate offices, and 20 special registration camps. More distribution points are expected to be added depending on local demand.

Officials said the card can also be recharged online, making the process fully digital and easier for daily commuters. In the future, the same card is expected to work across other public transport systems such as the Delhi Metro and the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the initiative is aimed at making public transport safer, smarter and more accessible for women. She added that the scheme is also helping increase confidence and independence among women commuters across the city.

CM Gupta further said the camps would continue across the city in the coming weeks.
