A young man lost his life in a chilling act of violence after a powerful crude bomb exploded near the Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Central Command at Dhaka’s busy Moghbazar intersection on Wednesday evening.
The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Siam Majumder. According to the police, unknown attackers hurled an improvised explosive device from the Moghbazar flyover at around 7:10 pm. The bomb fell onto the road below and is believed to have struck Siam on the head, killing him on the spot. Confirming the incident, Ramna Division Deputy Police Commissioner Masud Alam said a high-intensity cocktail bomb was thrown from above.
“The youth died instantly after being hit by the explosive,” he said, adding that senior police officials rushed to the scene and an investigation has been launched.
A tea-stall owner named Faruk, who witnessed the blast, recounted the horrifying moments that followed. He said Siam had just come to his stall for a cup of tea.
“I was about to wash the cups when there was an explosion. I saw Siam collapse to the ground. Blood was coming out of his head, and his brains were scattered,” he told local media.
Siam worked at Zahid Car Decoration, an automobile accessories shop in the Moghbazar area. Police said he had stepped out to buy snacks from a nearby shop when he was caught in the deadly blast.
The area has since been sealed off by law enforcement agencies as forensic teams collect evidence. Police are working to identify those behind the attack and to ascertain the motive for the deadly bombing.
