On Sunday, September 26, CJP co-convenor and spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka was detained by Assam Police in Guwahati, along with several other party leaders and volunteers, while they were on their way to a scheduled meeting.
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) alleged that the police stopped its team before it could reach the meeting venue. The organisation claims that around 50 people were detained, although the figure could not be independently verified.
CJP claims meeting venue was blocked
The CJP alleged that the road to the venue was barricaded on both sides and that a large police presence was deployed there. It also claims that people trying to reach the meeting were intercepted.
The party said those detained included Ankit Bhardwaj, Prem Aakash and other members of its leadership and Assam-based volunteer team. It alleged that the detainees were taken to a police facility in Guwahati.

Ashu and co were going to have a small volunteers meet up in Assam.
In a post on X, Dipke claimed that the police had taken Ranka and the team to an unknown location.
“Assam Police has detained Ashutosh Ranka and the CJP team and is taking them to an unknown location,” Dipke posted.

The CJP further alleged that lawyers who reached the location were not being allowed to meet Ranka and the other detainees. It also claimed that tear-gas equipment was deployed near the venue. The organisation said it could not immediately confirm the exact number of people detained or their locations.
Ranka had planned unrest in Assam and the Northeast
Ranka had been in Assam since Saturday. The party had planned to create unrest in Assam and the Northeast after the National Capital.
Before the meeting, Ranka had said the CJP would meet families of ineligible voters and illegal immigrants whose names were removed after the revision of electoral rolls.
In his social media posts about Assam, Ranka alleged that authorities were trying to stop the CJP from raising questions about schools, land and other issues.
CJP announces press conference
The CJP has demanded the immediate release of Ranka and the other detained volunteers. It said its grassroots campaign in Assam would continue despite the reported police action.
The party has announced a press conference at 12.45 pm on September 27 at Chaudhary Tilla, opposite the Assam Secretariat, to address the reported detentions and disruption of its scheduled meeting.
Assam Police has not yet publicly stated the reason for the reported detentions.
