Gau Rakshak Chandrashekhar alias Farsa Wale Baba killed in Mathura, supporters block Delhi-Agra highway: Read what the police say

A major controversy has erupted in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura after a Gau Rakshak named Chandrashekhar Maharaj, popularly known as “Farsa Wale Baba”, was killed early Saturday morning, 21st March. According to initial reports, he died after being hit by a truck. The incident took place around 4 am in the Kosi police station area.

Initial reports claimed that the Gau Rakshak has been killed by cow smugglers. Following the death, supporters of Farsa Wale Baba started protests and stone pelting on the Delhi-Agra highway, demanding strict action against the cow smugglers.

The reports of a Gau Rakshak’s death spread anger throughout Mathura, and thousands of supporters blocked the Delhi-Agra Highway. Angry people pelted stones and broke the windows of several vehicles, creating a tense situation. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of the Mathura incident and directed officials to take strict action.

Many police vehicles were damaged in the protests. The police had to fire tear gas shells to control the crowd.

Farsa Baba had stopped a vehicle over suspicion of cow smuggling

As per reports, Farsa Wale Baba had received news about a truck transporting cows illegally. He chased and stopped the vehicles on the highway. When he was near the suspected truck in the Navipur area, another vehicle hit him on the road, leading to his death.

Commotion and stone pelting by supporters

The death of Farsa Baba triggered strong reactions across the area. Angry supporters gathered in large numbers and blocked the Delhi-Agra highway near Chhata, leading to a massive traffic jam stretching several kilometres.

They claimed that it wasn’t an accident but a planned murder. They raised slogans and demanded the immediate arrest of all those responsible for it. The situation soon turned tense, with people resorting to stone-throwing, damaging several vehicles passing through the area.

The incident has led to a heavy police presence in the region to control the situation. The situation is being closely monitored by the authorities as it is still tense.

Police statement: No cow smuggling, truck was loaded with grocery goods

Following violence on the highway, the Mathura Police have released a statement about the incident. They have stated that Chandrasekhar, alias Farsa Baba, had stopped a truck on suspicion of cow smuggling. “Due to dense fog on the road, another truck coming on the road hit him, and he died on the spot. The truck that Farsa Baba had stopped was carrying only grocery items. The collision that caused the death of Farsa Baba has also damaged the second truck, and the driver has been injured. The second truck was also carrying items like wires. The driver and helper are both from Alwar and are under treatment”.

The Mathura Police have added that no case of cow smuggling or any related activity has been found in this case. The people who had blocked the roads and were protesting have now been removed. The police have the situation under control by using adequate force. Further procedural steps are underway. The roadblock has been cleared.
