A 38-year-old Hindu woman was raped and tortured, not once but twice, in Amtali Upazila in barguna district of Bangladesh.
According to a report by Samakal, the victim was first raped at her own house on 23rd October by Saiful Islam and Mohammed Imran. She was tortured after the accused tied her hands and feet.
The Hindu woman intitially did not file any police complaint for fear of retribution and social ostracism. But a few later on 29th October, the two accused raped the victim again when she was alone at her home.
The heinous crime was recorded by Imran’s younger brother Imraj on his mobile phone. The accused threatened to kill the victim and post the ‘rape video’ on Facebook if she dared to speak to the police.
Following two incidents of rape, the Hindu woman filed a complaint with the police on 1st November. Two accused namely Imran and Imraj were caught. However, Imran managed to secure bail on 5th November.
Since then, the victim, her husband and sons have left the village and are forced to take refuge at the residence of a close relative.
After being out on bail, Imran is threatening the family members of the Hindu woman and coercing them to withdraw the police case.
While narrating the ordeal, the victim’s teenage son stated, “I am in a state of panic. I want the death penalty for those who committed this heinous crime against my mother.”
The victim’s husband stated, “It is scary to stay at home with two children.” He added that the accused’s family have told them to leave the village as they are Hindus.
