Hyderabad Aston Martin crash: MP Lingamaneni Ramesh’s son booked after 26-year-old woman’s death, gets bail within hours

A 26-year-old woman was killed in Hyderabad after she was struck by an Aston Martin being driven at high speed and in a rash manner by 21-year-old Lingamaneni Sanjush, son of Rajya Sabha MP and businessman Lingamaneni Ramesh. Police have since granted Sanjush station bail and served him a notice under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) as part of the investigation.

The victim, Bharathi Mukhi, worked at the Lifestyle store at Inorbit Mall in Madhapur. She died on August 16 after being hit by the luxury car while crossing the road near her workplace.

Cyberabad police identified Sanjush as the driver of the Aston Martin and booked him in connection with the fatal crash. A Madhapur police official confirmed that he was given station bail after being served the BNSS notice.

Police said Sanjush was apprehended on the day of the crash and underwent drunk-driving and drug tests. His blood samples were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory, while the Aston Martin was seized as part of the investigation.

How the crash unfolded

According to the FIR, Bharathi and her colleague, Pooja Ashok Alone, 26, had gone towards the nearby ITC Kohenur area at around 3 pm to have lunch. While returning to the Lifestyle store, Bharathi attempted to cross the road in front of Inorbit Mall.

At that point, she was allegedly struck by the Aston Martin bearing registration number TG-09-G-0666.

The impact left Bharathi with severe head injuries and heavy bleeding. Police said she was rushed to Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills in the same car. However, doctors declared her dead after she was brought to the hospital.

Pooja subsequently informed the store manager, Ashwin Kumar, who alerted the police.

The FIR alleges that the Aston Martin was being driven at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner when it hit Bharathi.

Police said the collision occurred at around 3 pm on August 16. Bharathi suffered a severe head injury and was taken to Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills, where she was declared dead.

Case registered under BNS

Police have registered a case under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with causing death through a rash or negligent act that does not amount to culpable homicide.

The case has drawn attention because of Sanjush’s family background. His father, Lingamaneni Ramesh, is a businessman and Rajya Sabha MP associated with Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party.

Political row over the crash

The case has also triggered a political controversy, with YSRCP national spokesperson Karthik Yellapragada alleging that the incident was being kept quiet and questioning why there had been little public discussion of the case for five days.

Yellapragada alleged that political considerations were behind the lack of attention to the case and demanded immediate justice. His allegations have not been independently substantiated.

The investigation remains underway, with police awaiting the forensic examination of Sanjush’s blood samples and continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
