Hyderabad: Teacher Shaik Aisha Parveen terminated for giving ‘Kalma & Surah Fatiha’ homework to class 2 Hindu student

A private school in Hyderabad has removed a Muslim teacher from service after a controversy broke out over a religious homework assignment given to a class 2 student. The incident took place at The Success School in Saidabad (Sayeedabad), where the family of a Hindu student raised objections after finding Islamic prayers written as homework in the child’s school diary.

The issue came to light when the student’s parents visited the school and questioned the management, saying it was not appropriate to ask their child to learn religious prayers that were not part of their faith. They also demanded strict action against those responsible.

Homework mentioned Kalma and Surah Fatiha

According to the family, the school diary instructed the child to “Read 1, 2 Kalma” and “Read Fatiha” as homework. The student’s aunt, Supritha Goud, said this was not the first time such an instruction had appeared. She claimed a similar entry had been made in the diary earlier but was later crossed out.

She said the family first spoke to the school authorities after discovering the homework. According to her, the principal initially told them that the religious exercise was mandatory for all students, while another staff member later said the diary entry had been written by mistake.

The school terminates the teacher

Following the controversy, the school issued a termination order dated 15th July 2026, dismissing Shaik Aisha Parveen, a Mother Teacher at the Saidabad branch, with effect from 16th July 2026.

In the termination letter, the school also stated that she had been permanently disqualified from applying for employment in any institution under the Success Group of Educational Institutions in the future. The document carries the principal’s signature, the official school stamp, and a handwritten note confirming that the teacher received a copy of the order on 15th July.

Family says schools should respect every student’s faith

Supritha Goud said schools should focus on education while respecting the religious beliefs of students. She said she plans to take up the matter with the Education Department and other concerned authorities because she believes such assignments should not be given to children.

She also expressed concern that some parents might assume the religious content was part of the school curriculum and encourage their children to memorise it. According to her, such practices could indirectly influence young students and should not be forced upon them.

Videos of the confrontation spread on social media

Videos showing the family’s interaction with school officials have since been widely shared on social media.

In the clip, family members can be seen questioning the school management over why a Hindu student was asked to learn Kalma and Surah Fatiha as part of school homework.

The incident has sparked a wider discussion on the role of schools in handling religious content and the importance of respecting the beliefs of students from different communities.
