Vijay Aggarwal, the criminal lawyer who represents fugitive diamond businessman Mehul Choksi, has been arrested and jailed in London. Arrested on 11th August, lawyer Vijay Aggarwal was arrested over four offences of sexual assault on two women, a Times of India report says.
Aggarwal’s personal assistant, Manpreet Kaur, has also been jailed for intentionally enabling the commission of two offences. Both the arrested accused are Indian citizens.
Reports say that lawyer Vijay Aggarwal and Manpreet Kaur were arrested at 29 Brick Street, Mayfair, on 11th August, after the Metropolitan Police received an alert of sexual assaults at the address in the serviced luxury ambassadorial town house.
It has been alleged that Vijay Aggarwal intentionally touched a woman. Aggarwal was booked since the touching was sexual, as the woman did not consent.
Aggarwal was charged with another count of the same offence on 26th May 2026.
Meanwhile, Aggarwal’s PA Manpreet Kaur has been booked for encouraging or enabling the sexual offences on 26th May and 9th August at the said property. Kaur had introduced the two women to Aggarwal by inviting them to an address after publishing a fake job advertisement.
Two other individuals were also arrested in connection with the case and later released on bail.
Notably, lawyer Vijay Aggarwal represented fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi in the extradition case in Antwerp, Belgium. Mehul Choksi, who fled India in 2018, has been in jail since an extradition request from India in April 2025. Choksi, his nephew Nirav Modi and others are accused of defrauding the Punjab National Bank (PNB) of Rs 13,000 crore. Choksi faces charges of criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, cheating and dishonesty, including delivery of property, corruption and money laundering.
It must be recalled that back in May 2021, after the fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi, one of the prime accused in the PNB fraud case, was spotted in Dominica’s capital city of Roseau at the Canefield beach, disposing of some documents in the sea, his lawyer Vijay Aggarwal had alleged that he was ‘abducted’ from Antigua on Sunday and transported by boat to Dominica.
“Our lawyer in Dominica was allowed access to him (Mehul Choksi) only for two minutes. He (Choksi) reported his horrifying experience. He narrated that he was picked up by various people from Jolly Harbour in Antigua and taken to Dominica. He was taken forcibly,” lawyer Vijay Aggarwal was quoted as saying by ANI back then.
