Amravati police have arrested 19-year-old Ayan Ahmed Tanveer for sexually exploiting hundreds of girls including minors, recording obscene videos and circulating them online. The accused has been remanded to police custody till 21st April 2026. Investigators have recovered over 350 videos and are probing a possible wider network behind the crime. The accused has past links to Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM.
How the accused operated
According to the police, the accused befriended several girls, including minors, through social media. He gained their trust and lured them into relationships. He is suspected of sexually exploiting the victims, filming the acts without their consent and later using the videos to intimidate and blackmail them. Around 100 such videos went viral, which triggered outrage across Paratwada and Achalpur towns.

Ayan’s mobile phone has been seized and police are conducting forensic analysis to recover deleted data. Media reports quoted police saying that the accused is visible in some videos. At least one more accomplice is suspected to be involved in filming the acts.
Police investigation and second arrest
Amravati police have registered a case against Ayan under Section 294 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relevant provisions of the POCSO Act and the IT Act. Speaking to the media, Amravati Rural SP Vishal Anand Singuri said that police are identifying all victims and examining how many videos were created beyond those that have already been recovered. He said, “Police are monitoring posts of those who downloaded videos and are recirculating it.”
A second accused, identified as Ujer Khan Iqbal Khan, has also been arrested by the police for downloading and circulating the videos from Ayan’s phone. According to the officials, his actions amplified the crime, which led to rapid circulation of the content.
Political links and public outrage
The matter has taken a political turn as the accused reportedly has past association with Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM party. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders accused him of having links to AIMIM during local elections. However, AIMIM representatives said he was no longer associated with the party.
Protests, bandh call and government response
The incident has sparked protests in the region. Hindu organisations have called for a bandh in parts of Amravati. Additional police force has been deployed to maintain law and order.
SP Singuri appealed to victims’ families to come forward, assuring confidentiality and legal support, noting that no formal complaints have yet been filed due to social stigma. Special contact arrangements through female officers have been set up.
Amravati guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has taken note of the matter. “There are many dimensions to this case. We will investigate and take strict action,” he said.
Authorities have urged citizens not to circulate objectionable content and to assist the investigation as further revelations are expected during the police custody remand phase.
