Ministry of Railways completes export of 10 ‘Made In India’ 3300-HP locomotives, manufactured in Varanasi, to Mozambique

Under the Make In India, Make For the World initiative, the Ministry of Railways has exported 10 diesel locomotives manufactured at the Banaras Locomotive Works in Varanasi to Mozambique. On April 20, the Ministry posted that the final batch of two locomotives have been delivered to the Maputo port in Mozambique, completing the order.

Each 3,300 HP locomotive, designed for heavy freight and passenger operations, represents advanced Indian rail manufacturing capability, the Ministry stated.

The successful export highlights India’s growing capabilities as a supplier of railway equipment and machinery. African nations have emerged as a key market for India’s manufacturing. India has also been playing a key part in multiple African infrastructure projects in recent years.

Banaras Locomotive Works is among India’s premium locomotive manufacturing units, producing both diesel and electric locomotives. It regularly exports to Nepal, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Tanzania and other nations.
