The death toll from Sunday’s passenger jet crash in South Korea’s Muan County has jumped to 179, after the aircraft carrying 181 people veered off the runway and erupted into flames. Reportedly, only 2 passengers survived while everyone else died during the accident.
Notably, the aircraft crashed during an emergency landing at Muan International Airport in South Korea on Sunday morning, December 29.
The acting President of South Korea Choi Sang-mok has declared the crash site as a special disaster zone.
President Choi said, “The government would like to offer its sincere condolences to the bereaved families and will do its best to recover from this accident and prevent a recurrence.”
