The police authorities in Erode District of Tamil Nadu have allowed actor turned politician Vijay to conduct his next political rally on 18th December, nearly two months after a stampede in his earlier rally took over 40 lives. The permission granted by the police is under strict guidelines to ensure law and order is in place without any untoward incident happening.
As per the media reports, Erode police have given permission to conduct this rally under a maximum of 84 conditions. A security deposit of ₹50,000 in cash is also being sought. The police have clearly stated that they want the place to be cleaned up after the event, with everything returned to its original state. The event will be conducted from 11 am to 1 pm in Vijayamangalam, which is very close to Erode.

The proposed site is a 16-acre private temple space, which is under the control of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. Although all terms were laid down by the police and were ready with permission, initially, a delay occurred since the HR&CE department had not given a No Objection Certificate.
However, the issue was resolved after representatives of Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), met temple authorities on Sunday (14th December). Following the meeting, the HR&CE department issued the required NOC, clearing the final hurdle. After this, Erode Superintendent of Police A Sujatha, along with other police officials, inspected the venue and formally approved the rally.
Earlier, TVK chief coordinator K A Sengottaiyan had said that preparations for the 18th December public meeting were already underway. He, along with party functionaries, visited the site near the Vijayamangalam tollgate, where party workers had begun cleaning and basic arrangements in anticipation of police clearance.
The upcoming rally comes in the shadow of a tragic incident on 27th September, when a massive stampede broke out during Vijay’s campaign rally in Karur district of Tamil Nadu. The incident led to the death of 41 people, including women and children, and left several others injured. Following the tragedy, an FIR was registered against TVK functionaries, though Vijay himself was not named in the case.
