PM Modi doubles down on ‘Naraz fufa ji’ jibe after inaugurating Rs 35,000 crore development projects in Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi doubled down on his “naraz fufa ji” remark while speaking about India’s development and infrastructure push in Gujarat.

On Tuesday, 8th September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi again used his now-familiar phrase “naraz fufa ji” to take a swipe at those who question the government’s development work. Speaking at the NaMo for Viksit Bharat event in Vadodara, Gujarat, Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth around ₹35,000 crore.

Among the key projects was a 2,800-kilometre dedicated rail freight corridor, which Modi described as a “historic achievement of the 21st century.” He used the project to compare what he called the different “work cultures” of the BJP and Congress governments.

Modi said the freight corridor was originally conceived in 2004 during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee but made little progress during the UPA government led by Manmohan Singh.

“The freight corridor project was conceived in 2004, but nothing moved till BJP came to power in 2014,” he said.

Taking a dig at those who may question the usefulness of the project, PM Modi said, “One naraz fufa ji will be crying out, ‘What will the truck drivers do?’ Uncle Ji now has work.”

The Prime Minister said the freight corridor was taking railway connectivity to areas that had remained without it even decades after Independence. He linked the project to the government’s larger effort to strengthen India’s supply chains and promote Atmanirbharta, or self-reliance.

Modi also compared the railway work carried out after 2014 with the record of the previous government. “After 2014, India built 50,000 modern railway coaches; the previous regime could not build even 50,000 toilets in 10 years,” he said.

He further said India was entering a new manufacturing phase, with domestic production growing “from chips to ship”, covering both components and finished products.

When did PM Modi first use ‘Naraz fufa ji’?

The phrase “naraz fufa ji” was first used by PM Modi last week during an event at Shri Ram College of Commerce in Delhi. His speech at the college included several Gen Z-style references as part of his outreach to young people.

At the event, Modi used the phrase while responding to criticism over India recording 7.8% GDP growth in the first quarter of 2026-27. He said some people had made a habit of opposing government initiatives.

“Outside the campus, you will find two types of people: those who positively transform the power of society into the power of the nation and the others who turn into naraz fufa as soon as any work begins,” he said.
