Haryana: 2 killed as 5 vehicles collide on KMP expressway in Tawadu, trucks burst into flames

Two people lost their lives in a road accident on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway in Haryana’s Tawadu subdivision on Sunday morning, 18th January, officials said. The accident happened within the limits of the Mohammadpur Ahir police station of Gurgaon.

According to police, this incident took place between the villages of Sabras and Gudhi, wherein a car suddenly applied brakes on the expressway. This unexpected halt triggered a chain reaction, resulting in a collision involving five vehicles. Among them were a dump truck loaded with gravel and a container truck, which bore the brunt of the impact.

The collision was so violent that it resulted in both the dump truck and the container truck bursting into flames soon after the accident occurred. The driver and cleaner of one of the trucks were also trapped inside the truck and died instantly as the trucks were engulfed in flames. The bodies were completely burnt, making the identification of those who died difficult for the authorities.

Traffic hit, rescue operation takes hours

The accident led to a traffic jam on the expressway, and locals gathered in large numbers at the spot. The police teams were quickly present at the location, and three fire engines were deployed to extinguish the fire. It took close to two hours to extinguish the fire, while traffic flow resumed in three hours.

Eyewitnesses and truck drivers told the police that two vehicles involved in the incident fled the scene, leading to the pile-up. The station in charge of the Mohammadpur Ahir police station confirmed that efforts are being put in place for the identification of the victims of the accident. Braking abruptly has been identified as the cause of the accident, and the cars that fled the scene are currently being looked for by the police.
