Ride-hailing giant Uber has announced a major partnership with the Adani Group to establish its first data centre in India, marking a significant step in expanding its technology and innovation footprint in one of its fastest-growing markets. The facility, expected to be operational later this year, will be used to test and deploy Uber’s advanced technologies, supporting the company’s operations both in India and globally.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi made the announcement following a meeting with Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Sharing the development on X, Khosrowshahi stated: “Great to meet @gautam_adani in Ahmedabad this morning and build on our existing partnership with the Adani group. As India fast emerges as a leading innovation hub for @Uber, we are setting up our first data center in the country with the Adani Group to test and deploy our tech. Ready later this year, this investment will help us build at scale – from India, for the world.”

The announcement was made during Khosrowshahi’s ongoing visit to India. He met several union and state ministers on Tuesday, including finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu.
The data centre will leverage AdaniConneX, the Adani Group’s joint venture with EdgeConneX, which is already a key player in India’s booming data infrastructure sector. This collaboration underscores India’s rising prominence as a global tech and innovation centre, especially amid the surge in demand for AI and digital services.
This latest move builds on the existing partnership between Uber and the Adani Group. The two companies have been collaborating since early 2024 on electric vehicle (EV) initiatives. Adani has been in discussions to acquire and operate a fleet of electric cars that would be integrated into Uber’s platform, aligning with Uber’s global commitment to a zero-emission fleet by 2040. Additionally, plans include integrating Uber services into Adani One, the group’s super app for mobility and other services. Adani Airports already provides dedicated pick-up zones for Uber at its facilities, facilitating seamless operations for passengers.
This data centre partnership is a strategic alignment of Uber’s tech prowess with Adani’s expertise in infrastructure and renewable energy-powered facilities. It comes at a time when India is witnessing rapid growth in its data centre capacity, driven by digital transformation, AI adoption, and increasing cloud computing needs.
The new data centre is poised to enhance Uber’s ability to innovate locally while contributing to the “from India, for the world” vision for technology development.
This development is expected to create new opportunities in high-tech jobs and further strengthen bilateral business ties between global tech firms and Indian conglomerates focused on sustainable infrastructure.
