In Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, the body of an 8-year-old girl was found inside a sack abandoned on the premises of a school. The body was found on 25 December. A day later, police arrested the accused Irshad after an encounter.
The body of the child was naked when found and marks of assault were seen. She has been missing from the previous day.

As per reports, accused Irshad is the neighbour of the deceased victim girl. When police scanned the CCTV footage of the area, the child was last seen with the accused. The accused had lured her with the intention of rape. As per reports, Irshad had taken the girl inside his house and tried to rape her. Upon being unsuccessful in the sexual assault, he killed her for fear of being exposed. CCTV footage from a nearby camera showed Irshad entering his house with the girl and leaving after some time carrying a sack.
The sack was dumped on the premises of a school in Chandauli’s Mugalsarai area. Her head was smashed with a heavy object. When the police arrived to arrest Irshad, he tried to escape by firing on the policemen. Irshad was hit with a police bullet on the leg.
