Repeating its 2020 Delhi Vidhan Sabha election performance, Congress this time, too, drew a blank in the 70-seat assembly polls. But this year’s zero seats were different from earlier times when Congress didn’t manage to win a single seat, Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav said in an exclusive interview with Indian Express.
Explaining about Congress’ electoral performance in Delhi, Yadav said, “This time, the zero we received is quite different from the last one. The key difference is that, following this election, we are optimistic about regaining the support of our core voter base—Dalits, the underprivileged, and minorities. With AAP no longer in power, we now have hope of reclaiming the vote share of the electorate who traditionally considered us their first choice.”
“For the third consecutive term, we couldn’t secure a seat in the Delhi Assembly, which is undoubtedly a setback for us. However, we succeeded in shaping the perception that the election was a three-way contest rather than just a two-way battle. In that sense, we have still made significant progress,” Yadav said.
It is noteworthy to mention that Congress failed to secure a single seat in the recently concluded Delhi Assembly polls, marking an unfortunate hat-trick of electoral defeats. The party, which governed Delhi for 15 consecutive years from 1998 to 2013, has now faced rejection from voters in three successive assembly elections.
