A total of 122 assembly constituencies are set to vote in the second and last phase of the Bihar assembly elections, on 11th November. All 20 districts would have polling from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm today. Assembly seats in the areas of Magadh, Mithilanchal, Seemanchal, Shahabad and Tirhut are included in the last stage. Approximately 14.55% voter turnout transpired till 9:00 am.
Over 3.7 crore voters, including 1.74 crore women, are eligible for the democratic exercise, which will determine the fate of 1,302 candidates, comprising of 136 women and one transgender person. There are 45,399 polling stations out of which 40,073 are in rural regions and 5,326 are in urban areas.
2.28 crore voters or more than half of the electorate are between the ages of 30 and 60 and 7.69 lakh people are in the 18-19 age range. There are two Scheduled Tribes (ST), 19 Scheduled Castes (SC) and 101 general constituencies out of 122.
“Voting is both our obligation and our right in a democracy. Voting for the second round of the Bihar legislative assembly elections gets underway today. All voters are strongly encouraged to use their right to vote. Cast your votes and encourage others to do the same. First, cast your vote, then do everything else,” Chief Minister Nitish Kumar wrote on social media.

Former deputy chief minister Tarkishore Prasad (Katihar), former speaker Uday Narain Choudhary (Sikandra), and multiple former ministers, including Vinay Bihari (Lauriya), Narayan Prasad (Nautan), Shamim Ahmed (Narkatia), Rana Randhir Singh (Madhuban), Pramod Kumar (Motihari), and Sunil Kumar Pintu (Sitamarhi), are competing in the second phase. Renu Devi, the senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a former deputy chief minister, is another prominent contender.
The eagerly awaited exit polls will also be released after the last round of voting. The exit poll estimates for the future Bihar government are anticipated to begin around 6:30 pm. As a result of the Election Commission of India’s regulations, exit poll forecasts are now postponed until after voting has taken place.
The first round of voting, which took place on 6th November and covered 121 constituencies in 18 districts, saw the highest-ever voter turnout in Bihar at 64.66% following the pivotal Special Intense Review (SIR) campaign.
Meanwhile, by-elections are also underway across eight assembly constituencies in six states and one Union Territory including Budgam and Nagrota in Jammu and Kashmir, Anta in Rajasthan, Ghatsila in Jharkhand, Jubilee Hills in Telangana, Tarn Taran in Punjab, Dampa in Mizoram and Nuapada in Odisha. The votes will be counted alongside Bihar assembly election results, on 14th November.
