“I can take care of the police, but I cannot tackle the Bajrang Dal people”, these are the words uttered by a Muslim cleric from a mosque in Delhi’s Okhla area. The Muslim cleric made the remarks when the live-in partner of a 27-year-old Hindu woman took her to the mosque to convert her to Islam and perform Nikah with her.
The Hindu woman from Bihar, who is a single mother of a 3-year-old daughter, is the latest victim of Love Jihad. She was trapped in a relationship with a Muslim man, who claimed to be a Hindu. The man named Shahid Parvez misled the Hindu woman into believing that he was ‘Suresh Yadav’ and got into a live-in relationship with her. She found out about his real identity about a year later.

Speaking to journalist Swati Goel Sharma, the Hindu woman narrated her ordeal. She revealed that after she found out his real identity, Shahid Parvez took her to several mosques to convert her to Islam and perform Nikah with her. He was turned away from several mosques as the Muslim clerics refused to perform the Nikah, citing the age gap between Shahid and her, which is around 20 years.
Then Shahid Parvez took her to a mosque in Delhi’s Okhla Mandi area, where a Muslim cleric asked her to recite the Kalma. When she failed to recite the Kalma, the Muslim cleric refused to perform her conversion and Nikah, saying that the Nikah cannot be performed until she accepts Islam. The Muslim cleric then asked Shahid Parvez to take her away, citing the fear of the Banjrang Dal.
How the victim was trapped by Shahid
The Hindu woman is divorced and lives with her daughter in Delhi. She works as a cook in houses in the CR Park area of Delhi. She came in contact with Shahid Parvez through Instagram in 2023. His Instagram account had the name SK Yadav, and he introduced himself as Suresh during their conversations.
Around two months later, the woman met Shahid. Despite being much older than her, he told her that he was unmarried. He said that he wished to marry her and provide her and her daughter a stable life. Believing his words, the woman entered into a relationship with him and moved in with him in DDA Flats, Kalkaji, in 2024. The two began living together and were in a physical relationship.
The woman said that he assured her that he would pay her household expenses and the school fee for her daughter. In return, he wanted her to perform all “wifely duties” for him. The woman discovered Shahid’s real identity about a year later. Parvez was already married and had an eight-year-old son. When she confronted him, he said that he hid her identity because she would not have consented to a relationship with her if she had known his real identity. He asked her to accept the reality or leave his house.
Not having a place to go, the woman agreed to stay. Shahid then took her to several mosques to convert her and perform a Nikaah with her. When he was turned away, he made her sign a document written in Urdu, telling her that it was a Nikahnama. A rent agreement dated March 2025, reviewed by SNU records her name as “Sibra Parvez, wife of Shahid Parvez.” Recently, in March 2026, the woman also found out that Shahid also had an 18-year-old daughter, another fact he had concealed from her.
On June 9, 2026, Shahid Parvez had disappeared from the residence with his personal belongings. His mobile phone was switched off, and he could not be contacted. The woman said that her gold jewellery, comprising a pair of earrings, a nose ring, a necklace and a maang tikka, was also missing.
A formal complaint has been submitted to the Kalkaji Police Station and the National Human Rights Commission in the matter.
