Love Jihad in Mirzapur: Mohammad Saif attacks a woman with a blade for refusing to convert; 7 detained, hunt for the accused launched

On Wednesday (December 3), a young Hindu woman in Mirzapur survived a violent assault by Mohammed Saif after she refused to convert her religion. The shocking incident took place in Ganeshganj under Katra Kotwali police limits, where the accused reportedly forced his way into her home before slashing her with a blade and fleeing.

The attack triggered immediate police action, with senior officers rushing to the scene. The victim was first taken to the divisional hospital for emergency care, where doctors confirmed her condition to be stable. She was later referred to Varanasi for more specialised treatment and thorough examination, a precautionary move to prevent any complications, medical sources said.

Early findings suggest the Hindu woman and the accused had known each other for nearly a year. Their relationship, which began on friendly terms, deteriorated over time. Investigators believe the assault stemmed from growing tension between the two.

Police officials said that the nature of the attack indicates it was likely impulsive rather than premeditated. “Initial assessment suggests the crime emerged from a personal dispute,” an officer stated.

The victim’s brother has lodged a formal complaint, leading to a named FIR against the accused. Authorities have invoked stringent provisions given the seriousness of the act and are conducting the investigation on priority.

Seven individuals, believed to be connected to the incident or aware of the circumstances surrounding it, have already been detained and are being questioned. Their statements are being analysed to determine whether they assisted the accused or had advance knowledge of his intentions.

Four dedicated police teams have been formed to track down the attacker, and search efforts are ongoing across the district.
