On 8th December, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appealed to the citizens of the state to check the identity of individuals before hiring them as domestic help or for business work. He said that this should be done as the government is initiating a strict action against Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators residing illegally in the state.
Taking to X, CM Yogi wrote a note to the residents of Uttar Pradesh and said, “My esteemed residents of the state, The security of Uttar Pradesh, social harmony, and robust law and order are our utmost priority. Strict and decisive action has been initiated against Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators illegally residing in the state.”
“I appeal to the vigilant public of the state to remain alert and ensure the identity verification of any individual before employing them in domestic or business activities. The security of the state is the collective responsibility of all of us because security is the foundation of prosperity,” he added.
CM Yogi cited a recent Supreme Court observation regarding Bangladeshi and Rohingya illegals residing in the country and said, “The Honourable Supreme Court, while hearing a case, made a very important observation that the red carpet cannot be rolled out for infiltrators. This clearly demonstrates that infiltrators are unacceptable at any cost. Citizens, not infiltrators, have the right to resources.”
The Chief Minister further emphasised his government’s commitment to ensuring law and order in the state and said, “The security, social balance, and strong law and order of Uttar Pradesh are our top priorities. Strict and decisive action has been initiated against Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators living illegally in the state. All urban bodies have been instructed to identify and prepare a list of suspected foreign nationals.”

Calling Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators “burden”, CM Yogi stated, “Cleaning up unauthorized burdens on public resources is also essential. Benefits meant for the underprivileged through government programs cannot be allowed to be distributed. To this end, special document verification campaigns are underway, and infiltrators are being identified and sent to detention centres for further action. Detention centres are being established in each division for this purpose.
This comes days after the December 2 hearing of a habeas corpus petition alleging the custodial disappearance of five Rohingya individuals in Delhi. Filed by human rights activist Dr. Rita Manchanda, the petition sought information on the whereabouts of the detainees, allegedly picked up by Delhi Police in May.
During the hearing, the bench comprising CJI Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi questioned the legal status of the Rohingyas, asking, “Where is the order of the Government of India declaring them as refugees? Refugee is a well-defined legal term and there is a prescribed authority by the Government to declare them. If there is no legal status of a refugee, and somebody is an intruder, and he enters illegally, do we have an obligation to keep that fellow here?”
The CJI further remarked, “You enter illegally by cutting a fence or through a tunnel, and then say that now that you have entered, you are entitled to all rights – notice, food, and even rights for your children. We also have poor people in this country. Are they not entitled to certain benefits and privileges? Should we give these benefits to others instead?”
