Under the Phae-2 of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, the draft electoral rolls of Tamil Nadu and Gujarat states were published yesterday. In Tamil Nadu, 97.3 lakh names have been removed from the voter list, while in Gujarat, 73.7 lakh names have been removed, as per the Election Commission.
The electorate in Tamil Nadu has shrunk from 6.4 crore to 5.4 crore now. As per reports, another 1.2 crore voters have been marked to receive notices for ‘logical discrepencies’ in their enumeration forms.
Gujarat’s electorate has shrunk from 5.1 crore voters listed earlier to 4.3 crore in the current draft.
Logical discrepancis include more than six progency linked to the same parent since the last SIR, less than 15 year or more than 50 years age gap from parents, less than 40 year age gap from grand parents, and other such issues,
In Tamil Nadu, 26.9 voters have been found to have died, 66.4 lakhs have shifted elsewhere or were not found, and 4 lakh names were cut because of enrollment in multiple places.
In Gujarat, 18.1 lakh were found to have died, 51.8 lah have shifted or were not found (absent), and 3.8 lakh names were cut due to enrollment at multiple places.
Claims and objections can be filed by voter or any party’s booth level agents (BLA) till January 18, the ECI has said.
