On 30th December, the district administration completed a survey of 8 bigahs of government land near the disputed Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh and marked 22 enchroachments. The survey was conducted following the complaints of encroachment on plot number 32/2 in the revenue village of kot.
As per reports, the survey was conducted by a team of officials led by SDM Ramanuj and Tehsildar Dhirendra Pratap Singh. Police personnel from eight police stations, along with personnel from the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and the Rapid Action Force (RAF), were deployed to ensure the survey was conducted peacefully. The entire area was monitored using drone cameras. Intelligence agencies, including the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU), were put on high alert to handle any untoward incident. The situation was also being monitored from the control room at the Satyavrat police outpost.

After the land survey, a statement was issued by the Sambhal District Magistrate, Dr Rajendra Pensia, clarifying the entire situation. He stated that the survey was conducted following complaints of encroachment on the land, which also houses a cemetery. He said that the district administration has made it clear that encroachment will be removed. Several illegal houses and shops have reportedly been constructed on the land. Revenue records do not show any construction on the land. The district administration has decided to send notices to encroachers, and a case is likely to be filed in the revenue court.
