Chhattisgarh: Sajjid Ansari arrested for raping a 9-year-old girl, authorities demolish his illegal house in Raipur

In the Raipur district of Chhattisgarh, a nine-year-old girl was raped by a 65-year-old Muslim man, Abdul Sajjid Ansari, a crime that led to strong action by both the police and the civic authorities. The accused was arrested by the police and sent to jail after the incident came to light. Following his arrest, the administration moved in and demolished his illegal house.

The case is from the Civil Lines police station area. Police said the accused took the child to his house by luring her with chocolates and food items. Investigations revealed that between 7th January and 11th January, he assaulted the child multiple times.

The family noticed the crime on the morning of 12th January, when the child was found crying in pain and lying on the ground at home. When her aunt questioned her about the pain while bathing her, the child narrated the entire incident. The family then went to the police station and filed a complaint.

In her statement, the child said the accused had threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the abuse. Due to fear, she remained silent for several days. Police later arrested the accused and presented him before a court, which sent him to judicial custody.

After the arrest, the Raipur Municipal Corporation took action against the accused’s property. On the directions of Mayor Meenal Choubey, the civic body carried out a bulldozer operation and demolished his house.

Officials said the house was built illegally and violated municipal rules. A notice had been pasted on the property on 16th January, asking for a reply within a fixed time. Since no satisfactory response was received, the demolition was carried out.

Municipal officials said the administration is following a zero-tolerance policy against people involved in serious crimes and made it clear that illegal constructions will not be spared.

According to the crime data released by the Raipur police, the city recorded 15,896 crimes in 2025, including 280 rape cases, 92 murders, and 543 stabbing incidents. The data also shows that crime has increased over the past three years, with Khamtarai police station reporting the highest number of FIRs at 1,013.
