Ujjain ‘Grooming Gang’ case: Dalit minor girl disguised in burqa rescued from Indore, a Muslim boy, his friend Moin, arrested under POCSO

On 2nd February (Monday), a 15-year-old Dalit girl went missing for two days from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. However, she was found in Indore, and an underage Muslim boy had kept her at a relative’s residence after dressing her in a burqa. The duo’s friends are also involved in the matter. The Hindu Jagran Manch described the incident as a “grooming gang pattern.” The Muslim boy was helped by his friend Moin. The instance was recorded in CCTV camera. Police have nabbed two people in the case, including the main accused.

The minor disappeared from the Chimanganj Mandi police station area of Ujjain, reported Dainik Bhaskar. Afterwards, her family lodged a complaint with the authorities, and the police subsequently located her in Indore within 48 hours. On 4th February (Wednesday), late at night, they recorded the girl’s statement and initiated a rape case against the accused. She also underwent a medical examination.

The police commenced their investigation following her disappearance, leading to disturbing revelations. They also uncovered WhatsApp conversations. According to the police, the Muslim youth had lured the girl into a romantic relationship.

Additionally, the police disclosed that the girl had been brainwashed. Their friends also played a significant role in this situation. The victim had become entirely inclined to embrace a Muslim way of life, and her circumstances were exploited to take her away from home.

The authorities reported that the information collected during the search for the girl pointed towards Indore. The police went there and executed raids at multiple sites. Ultimately, the girl was discovered in a residence. They mentioned that the Muslim guy had clothed the Dalit girl in a burqa and concealed her at a relative’s home.

The police successfully rescued her and returned her to Ujjain. They have filed a rape case against the perpetrator after her statement. They affirmed that action will be taken against all individuals who aided in the girl’s abduction. Meanwhile, the Hindu Jagran Manch has termed the entire incident as a “grooming gang pattern” and has referred to the development as a conspiracy.

The organisation asserted that the girl was lured away from her house and was also pushed into religious conversion. Arjun Bhadauria, a representative of the outfit, voiced that this is the first instance of a case resembling the “grooming gang pattern” in Ujjain. However, the police have stated that the matter is currently under investigation. POCSO Act and JJ Act will be invoked in the case.
