Karnataka: Homoeopathic student Shahbaz punches professor after being caught cheating in exam

A tense situation unfolded inside an examination centre in Karnataka when a homoeopathic student punched an invigilator who caught him cheating with a mobile phone during an internal test. The incident took place at Dr Malakareddy Homoeopathic College in Kalaburagi and was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the classroom.

The student has been identified as Shahbaz, who is from Kerala. He was appearing for an internal examination in the subject Homoeopathic Materia Medica when Assistant Professor Shivaraj Kumar, who was on invigilation duty, noticed him using a mobile phone to copy answers. The professor immediately confronted him, took away his answer sheet and asked him to leave the hall.

The CCTV cameras installed in the classroom captured the entire incident. Shahbaz can be seen walking a few steps towards the exit when he suddenly turns around and argues with the professor. Soon, he starts punching Shivaraj Kumar in the classroom.

Other students, who were present in the hall, immediately got up from their seats and intervened in the situation. They manage to hold him back and prevent the situation from turning worse.

In the video, Shahbaz can be seen trying to move away, but after another exchange of words, he rushed at the professor again and threw a few more punches before being restrained once more by fellow students.

College authorities said Shahbaz’s parents were informed soon after the incident. The administration has barred him from appearing in any further examinations at the institution. An internal inquiry has been started, and further action will be taken based on its findings.

Sources also said that, as of now, the assaulted faculty member has not filed any formal police complaint. The incident has sparked fresh discussion about discipline during exams and the safety of teachers inside educational institutions.
