UP CEO fact-checks ‘fact-checker’ Mohammed Zubair’s ‘buy one get one free’ claims about four EPICs for the same person: Here’s what happened

Amid the ongoing protests against CEC Gyanesh Kumar and the Opposition parties’ ‘regime change’ manoeuvres, the propaganda machinery is active to fuel distrust in the Election Commission, with the B-Team Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) joined by Leftist anarchist student groups. In a latest, Islamo-leftist ‘factchecker’ Mohammed Zubair claimed on 17th October that during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, some voters missing from the 6th January 2026 draft roll submitted Form 6 twice and received four voter IDs (EPICs) in Uttar Pradesh.

Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair makes ‘buy one get one free’ claim about multiple EPICs of one voter

In an X post published on Saturday, Mohammed Zubair, the Alt News co-founder, wrote, “Gems of UP SIR! Several voters whose names were missing from the draft electoral roll (jan 6th) submitted Form 6 for inclusion. In some cases, two applications were submitted for the same person and the Election Commission went ahead and issued four voter IDs. In plain words: One person applied twice. The EC gave them four voter IDs. Buy one get one free! There are several such cases.”

To back up his claim, Mohammed Zubair attached four screenshots showing a person named Sunder from Aligarh parliamentary constituency having obtained four Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) or simply voter ID cards.

“Factcheck your own facts”: UP CEO debunks Islamo-leftist fact-checker’s claim

Addressing Mohammed Zubair as “Mr Factchecker”, Navdeep Rinwa, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), said that he should fact-check his own facts.

The UP CEO refuted Zubair’s claim that the BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh has a “Buy one Get one free” scheme run by the Election Commission.

In response to Mohammed Zubair’s post, the UP CEO said that the claim that the voter submitted only two applications and received four EPIC cards is false.

The UP CEO stated that, contrary to Zubair’s “submitted two applications” claim, the voter submitted four applications and therefore received four EPICs.

Mr Fact-checker please fact-check your own facts. There is no such scheme as “Buy one Get one free” scheme by Election Commission. As per your post, the voter had submitted only two applications and he got 4 EPIC cards. This statement is false. The voter had submitted 4 applications,” the UP CEO stated.

Moreover, the Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh challenged Mohammed Zubair to produce the reference numbers of two applications that Zubair claims the voter in question had submitted. The UP CEO added that he will post the reference numbers of the remaining two.

“If you want to dispute our facts then you post the reference numbers of two applications that you claim he had submitted, and we will post the reference number of the remaining two,” the UP CEO stated.

Furthermore, the UP CEO acknowledged that generation of multiple EPICs on submission of multiple forms of an individual is “a longstanding problem”. However, the Chief Electoral Officer emphasised that the Commission does deduplication through ECINET periodically.

“The problem of generation of multiple EPICs on submission of multiple forms of an individual is a long standing one. We do deduplication through ECINET periodically. We are on path to achieving the objective of catching multiple forms submitted by an individual at the submission stage only. We will achieve our objective very soon,” it said.

In addition, the UP CEO also asked Mohammed Zubair, who earned infamy for dog-whistling Islamists against former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma in 2022, to refrain from making “patently false statements about ECI” and inciting people.

“Please do not incite people by making patently false statements about ECI and thereby trying to create disaffection among the citizens towards a Constitutional Body. You are advised to rectify your mistake by amending or deleting your post after completing your own due diligence now that you have been informed by us about your wrong information,” the UP CEO stated.
