“Don’t need people that join Wars after we’ve already won”: Donald Trump rejects UK’s offer to send aircraft carriers to the Middle East, says it is too late

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that US no longer needs assistance from others in the war against Iran after UK offered to send two aircraft carriers to the middle east. In a post on Truth Social on March 7, 2026, Trump directly addressed UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, rejecting the offer saying that it was too late, and that US-Israel has already won the war.

Trump wrote, “The United Kingdom, our once Great Ally, maybe the Greatest of them all, is finally giving serious thought to sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East. That’s OK, Prime Minister Starmer, we don’t need them any longer — But we will remember. We don’t need people that join Wars after we’ve already won! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

The remarks come as the United States and Israel continue strikes on Iranian targets, with Trump repeatedly claiming significant progress and describing the conflict as effectively “already won” in terms of degrading Iran’s military leadership and capabilities. Reports indicate U.S. forces have achieved major objectives, including the decimation of key elements of Iran’s command structure, though operations are expected to persist.

The U.S. President’s comments in response to reports that UK was preparing to send an aircraft carrier to the Middle East. It was reported that Royal Navy workers were readying HMS Prince of Wales in Portsmouth, and that it could be deployed to the region in days. As per BBC, the crew of HMS Prince of Wales was asked to be ready to leave in five days.

Notably, while Trump said that the UK has offered to send two carriers, reports said only one carrier was being prepared for deployment. Royal Navy operates two aircraft carriers, the other being the HMS Queen Elizabeth.

Trump’s post refers to earlier UK reluctance to fully support U.S. actions, including initial restrictions on the use of British bases for offensive operations against Iran. The UK has since allowed limited use of facilities such as those in Cyprus and Diego Garcia for defensive purposes, and defence officials confirmed that the Royal Navy’s HMS Prince of Wales has been placed on heightened readiness for potential deployment to the region.
