UAE intercepts Iranian missile, falling debris injures Indian national in Abu Dhabi

On 23 March, an Indian national sustained minor injury after debris from an intercepted ballistic missile fell in Abu Dhabi’s Al Shawamekh area. According to the authorities, the incident occurred after a ballistic missile was intercepted that was set to target the UAE capital amid escalating tensions in West Asia.

Indian national injured after interception debris falls

The Media Office of Abu Dhabi confirmed that emergency and relevant authorities promptly responded to the situation in Al Shawamekh. In an official post on social media platform X, the office confirmed that the falling debris resulted in a minor injury to an Indian national. The office also urged the public to rely only on official sources for information and refrain from spreading rumours or unverified claims.

UAE air defence counters multiple Iranian threats

Just a day before this incident, the UAE Ministry of Defence said in a statement that its air defence systems had intercepted multiple aerial threats originating from Iran. According to the ministry, the latest wave of attacks included 25 unmanned aerial vehicles and four ballistic missiles, all of which were successfully neutralised.

The development comes amid ongoing escalation in West Asia, with the UAE reinforcing its defensive posture against repeated aerial threats.

Over 2,000 aerial threats intercepted since escalation began

The Ministry of Defence also released cumulative figures since the onset of what it described as “blatant Iranian aggression.” It stated that UAE forces have intercepted a total of 1,773 UAVs, 15 cruise missiles, and 345 ballistic missiles since the beginning of the escalation.

So far, six Indians have lost their lives in the conflict.
