On 24 March, Meerut police in Uttar Pradesh booked All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) state president Haji Shaukat Ali after he threatened to ‘encounter’ police personnel involved in encounters of Muslims.
"मुझे 111 नहीं, 11 जिताकर दे दो। मैं वायदा करता हूं कि यूपी में अगर किसी मुसलमान का एनकाउंटर होगा तो एनकाउंटर करने वाले का भी एनकाउंटर होगा" : शौकत अली, AIMIM प्रदेश अध्यक्ष

Shaukat Ali was addressing supporters at a programme held at Labbek Farm House on Hapur Road. In the viral video, he was seen saying that if his party had sufficient legislative strength, the situation would change. He said, “We do not need 111 MLAs, give us just 11. I promise that if a Muslim is encountered, those carrying out the encounter will also face an encounter.”
He also called for unity among supporters with the slogan “one stick, one flag and one leader,” arguing that political power is essential to safeguard community interests.
FIR registered, probe underway
Authorities took cognisance of the video and initiated legal action against the AIMIM leader. Kotwali Circle Officer Antariksh Jain stated that a case has been registered at Lohia Nagar police station in connection with the speech.

Past controversies
In his speech, Shaukat Ali targeted both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party. He criticised action against Muslims and questioned regional development priorities.
Earlier, he had courted controversy with his remarks on population growth, religious attire and historical figures. In a statement, he called for 24 children per Muslim couple, and in another statement, he used derogatory language against Maharaj Suheldev.
