Major arms trafficking network smuggling foreign weapons from Pakistan via Nepal exposed in Old Delhi, 10 arrested

In a major crackdown, the Delhi Police Crime Branch on Wednesday, 25th March, uncovered a large international arms trafficking network operating from the Walled City area of the national capital. The police arrested ten key members of the gang and recovered a huge stock of advanced foreign-made weapons.

According to officials, the police seized 21 high-end firearms, including a submachine gun and several semi-automatic pistols, along with around 200 live cartridges. Some of the recovered weapons are considered highly sophisticated and are usually not easily available in illegal markets.

Weapons smuggled through Nepal route

During the investigation, the police found that the weapons were being smuggled from Pakistan to India via the India-Nepal route. From there, the arms were being transported to Delhi before being sold to the criminal gangs operating in Delhi-NCR and other parts of the country.

The seized firearms included models such as PX-5.7 pistols, Stoeger pistols from Türkiye, PX-3 pistols from China, Shadow CZ from the Czech Republic, Beretta from Italy, Taurus from Brazil, Walther from Germany, among others. It is pertinent to note that the officials mentioned that the PX-5.7 pistol is normally used by the Special Forces.

Network operated from Delhi’s Walled City

Police said that the entire operation was being run from the Walled City area of Old Delhi. The accused were responsible for coordinating the movement of weapons across borders and ensuring they reached different criminal groups.

“The module was being operated from the Walled City area, coordinating the movement and supply of illegal arms to organised crime groups,” an official said. Investigators are now trying to find out whether these weapons were meant for major crimes or possible terror-related activities.

Authorities are also looking into the financial transactions of the accused to identify the masterminds behind the network. Efforts are being made to trace where the money came from and who the final buyers of these weapons were.

Police have increased surveillance to check if there are any sleeper cells linked to this racket. The arrested accused are being questioned further to understand the full scale of the operation.
