A dispute erupted between Muslim and Hindu communities over a monetary transaction at Farah Crossroads in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday evening (29th March). Kale, a Muslim scrap dealer, owed Pritam ₹5,000. Pritam went to Kale’s shop to recover the amount, following which an altercation broke out. Kale then called his associates and began pelting stones.

According to media reports, the situation escalated when Kale called a group of people to the spot. Soon after, stone-throwing began in the area. Eyewitnesses claimed that even after police reached the location, the violence did not stop immediately. Some people continued throwing stones and even used glass bottles during the clash.

A video of the incident has also surfaced online, showing a group pelting stones. Claims have been made about provocative slogans being raised, though this has not been officially confirmed.

Based on the complaint filed by Constable Girraj Singh, an FIR has been registered at the Farah police station. The case has been lodged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 191(2), 191(3), 190, 352, 125, 109(1), 118(1), and 351(3), which relate to rioting, unlawful assembly, assault, and criminal intimidation. A copy of the FIR has been accessed by OpIndia.

The FIR names several accused, all are Muslims, including Kale, Farukh, Sahil, Furkhan, Anwar, Arman and Faizan, all residents of the Vyapariyan Kasba area in Farah.

According to the FIR, Pritam said, ‘When I asked Kale for the money, he refused to pay and began shouting vulgar abuses involving my mother and sister. Soon, about a dozen people, including Kale, Farooq, Sahil, Furkan, Anwar, Indu, Arman, and Faizan, started pelting stones. They attacked me with a sharp knife with the intent to kill. Seeing the attack, Anmol, who was present at the scene, came to my rescue. The knife struck Anmol’s hand, causing a deep cut.’

He further said that he then dialled 112, and when the police arrived, the accused intensified the stone-pelting. ‘They did not stop even in the presence of the police and continued attacking with bricks and glass bottles. Upon seeing a large crowd gather and feeling surrounded, they fled toward the neighbourhood, threatening me by saying, “If you ask for money again, you infidel (kafir), we will bury you right here.

The clash reportedly continued for around half an hour before additional police forces, including the Refinery Circle team, reached the spot. Police then used mild force, including a lathi charge, to disperse the crowd and bring the situation under control. Two people have been detained so far, and raids are being carried out to identify and arrest others involved.
