US President Donald Trump of the United States on Tuesday issued a strong warning to Iran, stating that a “whole civilisation” could be destroyed within hours. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said that although he does not want such an outcome, it is increasingly likely. He described the moment as one of the most significant in world history, claiming that decades of “extortion, corruption, and death” could come to an end.

At the same time, Trump indicated that a diplomatic resolution remains possible, suggesting that a “revolutionarily wonderful” outcome could still emerge. According to reports, US and regional mediators have been working to secure a 45-day ceasefire as a step toward ending the conflict, though little progress has been made so far. US Vice President JD Vance stated that Washington has achieved its primary military objectives, leaving further action up to Iran.
Iran responded by warning of severe retaliation. Officials said that any escalation would result in an “unforgettable” response from Iran. Tehran has rejected calls for a temporary ceasefire, maintaining that only a complete end to the war is acceptable.
Trump also said he is “not at all” concerned about potential accusations of war crimes and warned that the US could target Iranian infrastructure if Tehran does not meet a deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Possible targets mentioned include power generation facilities and bridges.
The United Nations has raised concerns over the situation. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that attacks on civilian infrastructure would violate international law.
Reports citing US officials indicate that Trump has taken a more aggressive stance than other members of his administration. Some officials described him as the most hawkish figure in the current leadership.
Meanwhile, explosions were reported on Kharg Island, a key Iranian oil export hub near the Strait of Hormuz. According to reports, US forces may have carried out strikes on military targets in the area.
