On Monday (6th April), a major controversy broke out at the Samrat Vikramaditya University in Madhya Pradesh after a question about Allah appeared in an examination.
The contentious question featured in the Foundation Course paper for the 3rd Year BCom, BBA, and BCA students. An official inquiry has been initiated into the matter.
“There is no one other than Allah,” read the controversial question. Students were asked to choose one of the following options: Someshwar, Khuda, Shaktivan, and ‘The Punisher’.
The inappropriate question sparked outrage from the Hindu community, which demanded action against those who set the paper. Questions are being raised about whether it was a ‘well-thought-out attempt’ to peddle Islamist ideology.
After receiving flak from the public, the university initiated an official inquiry and referred the matter to the Examination Committee. In the meantime, the Vice-Chancellor sought an explanation from the Controller of Examinations.
The university administration has now relieved the professor, responsible for setting the question paper, of all his duties and has initiated the process of blacklisting him. It found that the controversial question was not part of the academic curriculum.
