Samrat Choudhary’s appointment as the CM will mark a significant political shift in Bihar, as he will be the first-ever BJP CM. Despite being in alliance with the JD(U) for years, the BJP had never held the CM post before.
Nitish Kumar’s resignation also is the end of an era. As one of India’s longest-serving CMs, Kumar stayed Bihar CM for over 20 years for multiple terms.
Samrat Choudhary, born as Rakesh Kumar in 1968, is the son of former RJD minister Shakuni Choudhary. He began his career with the Rashtriya Janata Dal before joining the BJP in 2018. He belongs to the Kushwaha (Koeri) community and has been the BJP’s prominent face among OBC groups.
