On Tuesday (12 May 2026), Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath as the Chief Minister of Assam for a second consecutive term. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Chief Ministers and senior leaders from NDA-ruled states, attended the swearing-in ceremony.
After taking oath, Himanta Biswa Sarma shared two photographs with newly appointed West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, which quickly went viral on social media.
Sharing the photos on X, Himanta wrote, “Their bad days have begun… (you know whose).”

Suvendu Adhikari promptly reacted to the tweet, posting: “No prizes for guessing.”

Although both the leaders did not mention anyone by name, the remark was widely interpreted as being aimed at Bangladeshi infiltrators. The conversation hinted that with BJP governments now in both Assam and West Bengal, border surveillance would become stricter and action against illegal infiltration would intensify. He also suggested that illegal cross-border activities would now face a much tougher response than before.
