52 lakh women to get Rs 1,000 monthly, SC beneficiaries to receive Rs 1,500: Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann announces scheme before 2027 polls

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that about 52 lakh women in the state will receive a monthly financial support of Rs 1,000 from 1st July under the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana. The move has happened with under a year remaining until the 2027 state assembly elections. Beneficiaries from the Scheduled Castes would get Rs 1,500 a month.

Cards have already been issued to 35 lakh women. Mann stated, “We have set aside funds for the Mukhya Mantri Mawan Dhian Satkar Yojana. About 52 lakh women beneficiaries have been identified, and cards have already been issued to 35-36 lakh of them. We are confident that all eligible beneficiaries will receive their cards by the end of this month,” during a press conference.

He conveyed, “No one should mislead the women of the state that this will run for just a few months. It will be a long-term scheme for the economic upliftment of women.” According to him, the government has already allocated the money needed to support the program.

It was one of the main commitments made by the Aam Aadmi Party prior to the 2022 Assembly elections. The opposition had been criticising the government for postponing its implementation. Mann claimed, “We started this scheme when we had a proper budget for it.”

He mentioned that there is no registration deadline and advised the women not to rush. He added that any qualified woman will be entitled to all arrears from July onwards in one instalment if she registers after the month because of administrative hold-ups or incomplete paperwork.

According to him, the financial aid would decrease women’s reliance on others by helping them pay for necessities like books, schooling and other personal requirements. Enrolment as a beneficiary will be open to women who are at least 18 years old, registered to vote in Punjab and have valid Aadhaar cards proving their presence in the state. They can apply by going to the Sewa Kendra, Anganwadi Centre, and municipal body offices close to them.

In his 2026–2027 budget recommendations, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema unveiled the plan and authorised Rs 9,300 crore for its execution. The government then declared that 97% of women will receive benefits, with the exception of current and past MLAs and MPs, spouses of serving ministers, income tax assessors alongside active and retired employees of central and any state or Union Territory governments.
